Westfarms Mall Closes Early After 100 Juveniles Create Disturbance, Fight Breaks Out

Westfarms mall in Farmington closed early Saturday evening after approximately 100 juveniles gathered on the property and created a disturbance that included a physical altercation, according to police.

Farmington and West Hartford police officers responded to the mall on New Britain Avenue after receiving reports of the large juvenile gathering, according to Farmington Police Lt. Kyle Noddin.

Lt. Noddin estimated that around 100 juveniles were congregated inside the mall when officers arrived at the scene. During the incident, a fight broke out between two of the young people, and both individuals were taken into custody, according to Noddin’s report.

The large group of juveniles proved resistant to dispersing when asked to leave by authorities, prompting mall management to make the decision to close the shopping center early, according to police. Mall officials took this action to ensure the safety of everyone on the property, Noddin reported.

After the early closure was announced, the remaining juveniles left the property without further incident, and no additional problems were reported, according to police.

Westfarms is widely regarded as one of Connecticut’s premier shopping destinations, making Saturday’s disruption particularly notable for the upscale retail center. The mall, which sits on the border between Farmington and West Hartford, typically draws shoppers from across the greater Hartford region.
